IN THIS KIT:
These kits provide an opportunity to learn about the concepts and forces which are integral to the success of ‘structures spanning spaces’, i.e., bridges. For centuries, people have made use of bridges to span physical obstacles, such as bodies of water, valleys, roads and rails, using different materials, including wood, stone and steel. This kit builds two different bridges: The Da Vinci bridge; a parabolic arch bridge designed by Da Vinci in 1502, and a concrete arch bridge which relies on its abutments and central keystone for its strength.
Project Links
- The built environment
- Cement and concrete
- Historic Designs and Architecture
- Forces
Da Vinci did a lot of cool things, but not all of them are practical to try at home. With this kit you can join Da Vinci in your house with one of his structural masterpieces!
